Marc Giai-Miniet was born in 1946 in Trappes, France, where he is currently based. He attended l’Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, a distinguished school of Fine Arts in Paris, and focused his studies on etching. His work consisted predominately of acrylic and oil paintings until 1995, when he abandoned large format works and began making smaller pieces from cardboard, which would later become his trademark “boxes”. In 2000, Giai-Miniet was named Chevalier of Arts and Letters by Catherine Tasca, the Minister of Culture of France. In 2012, a monograph of his work was published by AREA Editions entitled Pour les nuages, passer par l’escalier. He is currently the Secretary of the Salon de Mai, which organizes an annual group exhibition of contemporary artists.
