As we posted in earlier news, our friends at Upper Playground and Juxtapoz brought us the East Coast leg of their "Ignite What’s Next" Art Tour this month, sponsored by SPARKS. Since the Manhattan date conflicted with our own opening event on Saturday, we decided to check out Sunday night’s event instead, at Sputnik in Brooklyn. We arrived at the Fort Greene bar, to show support for our own David Choe, joined by fellow artists Saber and Retna.
Here are some pics for those of you who missed it:
A friendly wave from Dave, taking a moment to relax before showtime.
Esao Andrews was in attendance, seen here chatting with David Choe while the party got kicked off…
…and again, at the bar.
Retna gets things started on the collaboration wall piece, while the crowd gathers ’round.
Mr. LeVine watches, while Saber takes his turn with a brush and some blue paint.
Jonathan LeVine—fan of good art—apparently not a huge fan of SPARKS.
Gotta respect these artists, they’ve been touring the East Coast non-stop. Brooklyn was only city #5 out of 8!
Our boy David Choe steps up to the plate, can in hand…
It’s not every day you get to see live painting. Especially by three talented artists like these…
…working larger than life-size, right in front of your eyes.
Saber steps back in for a second coat of blue.
Saber and David admire their collaborative work, during round-2 for Retna, as he adds his final touches of red.
On the right here is photographer Jon Dragonette, if you haven’t already seen his images, be sure to head on over to Juxtapoz and check out his excellent photo-diary of the entire East Coast tour!
There you have it kids, the final product.
Jonathan LeVine risks getting blue paint on his shoulder while posing for a photo with Saber.
The crowd definitely enjoyed themselves…
…and off they went into the night, moving on to the next city. Thanks for putting on an awesome show, guys! Come back soon!!
