SAO PAULO at SCION Space

Jonathan was in LA last week, attending the opening at SCION Space for SÃO PAULO, the group exhibition curated by: Choque Cultural Gallery in association with Jonathan LeVine Gallery, featuring original work by Brazilian artists : STEPHAN DOITSCHINOFF (CALMA), CARLOS DIAS, MZK, RAMON MARTINS, SILVANA MELLO, SPETO, HAMILTON YOKOTA (TITI FREAK), and ZEZÃO.

Here are some photos!…

The lovely couple who own Choque Cultural Gallery, our dear friends Mariana Pabst Martins and Baixo Ribeiro

Baixo, Jonathan, and Mariana

Mariana and Nouar, after just being here in New York to install & open her current exhibition.

Stephan Doitschinoff (aka Calma) at a book signing table for his beautiful new monograph.

Stephan lit some candles to complete the effect of his altar-like installation of artwork.

Here is a shot of the vibrantly colorful installation by Carlos Dias

…and Carlos, himself.

This sculpture by MZK is called "Moai"

The crowd admires the striking work by Ramon Martins.

And here we have a wall of what is unmistakably the work of Zezão.

The artists themselves, Ramon Martins and Zezão

Hamilton Yokoda (aka Titi Freak)…

…and Titi Freak‘s work.

Fellow artists James Jean and Gary Baseman came by to check out the show.

As did Dan Flores of OBEY, with some members of his posse.

Van Arno and Anthony Ausgang were also in the house.

Zezão and LA-based artist Josh Agle (aka SHAG) were all smiles and stripes! Seen here with Baixo, fellow artist Speto, and of course our dear tall friend on the right, Eduardo Saretta of Choque Cultural!

The show runs through March 28, 2009. We highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the Los Angeles area, otherwise please visit the Scion Space website for more images of the work and guests!
