Every Which Way

Online
October 3 - 24, 2024

Jersey City, NJ, October 3, 2024Jonathan LeVine Projects proudly presents a digital exhibition titled, “Every Which Way”, by Nick Grindrod. The exhibition goes live on Thursday, October 3, 2024, and runs through Thursday, October 24, 2024, at www.jonathanlevineprojects.com.

This collection of paintings is a continuation of an ongoing dialogue in the artist’s work, both conscious and subconscious, about time and place. Grindrod’s work is influenced by his home city, which has a rich industrial heritage. He describes it as “a place where the decay and weathering effects of time have created a faded history of both the human and natural world environments. Stone, steel and plastic cross and overlay to produce both a visual and tactile record that has its own beauty. Something that I strive for in my work.”

Grindrod’s paintings are abstract in nature, masterfully combining geometric forms with expressive, gestural brushwork. The artist approaches each painting intuitively, adapting and reforming initial sketches “in the moment” while he works. As a result, the removal of paint and erasure of marks are just as significant as their application, which becomes evident in the finished pieces. Bold colors and soft lines contrast sharp edges and faded surfaces. Seemingly contradictory elements come together to create striking and energetic works of art. This process, or flow, is very important to the artist as he explains that “the decisions that are made in the moment can be both rewarding and disappointing but all lead to the truth in the end… I feel that this is the only way that I can truly create something unique”.

Nick Grindrod is a British artist based in Sheffield. He studied Fine Art at the University of Derby and Sheffield College. His work has been exhibited widely in Britain, USA and Asia.

Jonathan Levine Projects is committed to new and cutting-edge art. Its roots date back to 1995 when LeVine’s life-long participation in punk and underground music grew into a curatorial experiment with the visual culture that surrounded him. In 2005, he opened Jonathan LeVine Gallery in the Chelsea district of New York City and had great success nurturing the careers of many celebrated artists. In 2017, the gallery relocated to Jersey City with a newfound focus on community and collaboration. The renamed Jonathan LeVine Projects aims to create engaging programs and interesting partnerships beyond the traditional gallery space. With an eye towards honoring and connecting with the history and context of Post War art, Jonathan LeVine Projects explores the terrain of the high, the low and everything in between. In 2019, Jonathan LeVine Projects transitioned from a brick-and-mortar gallery to a virtual exhibition platform, spearheading a digital marketplace for fine art.
