LeVine LA tour 2008

Howdy Campers!

Jonathan recently flew out to sunny Los Angeles to attend the opening of In The Garden Of Retinal Delights : The Juxtapoz Factor at Laguna Art Museum. We thought we’d share some photos from the show’s opening and the rest of Jonathan’s adventures during his trip…

A rare sight for an East-Coaster, we rarely get dolphins here in NYC.

Jonathan stopped in to say hello to James Jean, while in his studio, working away on his upcoming exhibition with us, scheduled for January of 2009.

He also paid a visit to Souther Salazar in his Eagle Rock studio.

Here’s Souther sitting at his work desk, sipping coffee while Jonathan takes a look around.

Of course, the trip wouldn’t be complete without visiting the Studio Number One offices to say hello to Shepard Fairey.

Here’s Shepard with a fresh batch of newly released prints, hot off the presses!

Jonathan and Mr. Brainwash, who was also in town, having an event the same week.

One more stop, to see Marsea Goldberg over at New Image Art Gallery.

And then Jonathan met up with collector and close friend of the gallery, Mr. Ron Dominguez.

The two of them headed over to the main event, opening night at Laguna Art Museum.

Outside, they were met by artist, Anthony Ausgang.

Inside they were greeted by Juxtapoz Magazine’s CEO, the lovely Gwynned Vitello.

Guests piled into the space throughout the evening, taking in views of the exciting collection of artwork and celebrity guests.

The fabulous pink-pearl-and-crystal-laden octopus chandelier, Fenicologia, by our currently exhibiting artist Adam Wallacavage, can be seen here hanging above a sculpture installation of machine-gun-toting hula dancers.

A piece by the Date Farmers.

And here’s a pic of the Date Farmers themselves, Armando Lerma and Carlos Ramirez.

Jeff Soto seen here with wife Jennifer and daugher Shannon, who was feelin a bit emotional.

…but Josh Agle (aka SHAG) was all smiles 😉

DJ Diabetic (aka Shepard Fairey) was spinning tunes for the event.

Artists Saber, Tim Biskup, and Isabelle Samaras.

Biskup and The Pizz.

Artists Gary Baseman and Scott Musgrove.

The artists Todd and Kathy Schorr.

Todd Schorr with fellow artists Eric White and Van Arno.

Todd Schorr with Mark Parker and the curator of the exhibition, Meg Linton.

Bruce Helford and Jan Corey Helford with William Haugh of Juxtapoz.

The night after the exciting Museum opening, Jonathan, joined by the lovely Maria Tokyo, hosted a tasty dinner at a local Italian restaurant for a group of his artists and friends.

Here’s a shot of the table.

Conversations between courses.

The ever-lovely artist Nouar with her lucky date, Gizz.

The Date Farmers were seated together, Carlos Ramirez and Armando Lerma.

Piet Agle and Josh Agle, seated next to Tim Biskup.

Gary Baseman made a toast towards the end.
We can’t tell you what he said but silliness ensued thereafter…

After much coaxing, Souther agrees to show off his guns.

…so, Jonathan and Tim follow suit.

And there you have it, friends. After a few nights of crazy California fun, Jonathan returned east just in time for the opening week of our two current solo exhibitions: In the Garden of Moonlight featuring Ray Caesar & Les Trésors de la Tanière de Neptune, featuring Adam Wallacavage. Check out their shows if you haven’t already done so, before they close on July 26, 2008!

If you’re lucky, you might get to see Jonathan make this face:
