BEACH BLANKET BINGO afterparty

Many thanks to everyone who came out to the opening reception of our Summer group show, BEACH BLANKET BINGO last night! It was such a fun group of artists and visitors from near and far, we just wanted to share some photos from the afterparty held at The Suffolk on the L.E.S., in their brand new beachy backyard. Enjoy!…

After the reception had ended, we walked out of the gallery to discover a live band playing on the fire escape of a neighboring building, and a gorgeous and enormous full moon! We love being on 20th Street this summer, now that The Highline has opened. The north entrance, right at our corner, always has something fun and interesting going on.

Gallery staff invited artists and friends to an afterparty location selected to follow the "Beach" theme — The Suffolk (inside of the historical Clemente Soto Veles Cultural Center, on the Lower East Side). After an exciting opening reception, everyone was ready to relax with some beer, wine, sangria and sand!

The Suffolk recently turned their patio into a hidden urban beach oasis, by covering their parking lot with sand and adding some beach chairs, blow-up balls, tiki torches, umbrellas, and a grill.

The interior was decorated with kitschy, funky furniture and a bar serving up the refreshments.

What’ll it be, LeVine?… Beer or Sangria?…

A chandelier strewn with beads was hanging overhead (nice, although we think they could use a Wallacavage)!

As the night gets darker.

And darker, until it was time to close up the beach.

That pretty much sums up the afterparty. If you haven’t seen the exhibition yet, please come check it out before the closing day on Saturday August 22nd, or view the images online. Opening event pics shot at the gallery will be posted later this week, so check back soon. Have a great summer everyone!
